Department of Applied Mathematics

The famous Mathematician Kari Friedrich Gauss quoted that” Mathematics is the queen of all sciences” absolutely justified because without Mathematics existence of any kind of science is impossible. Mathematics is the core subject for all Engineering streams. In all branches of Engineering, Mathematics is used as a tool for research and development.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the pioneering departments of the institution with the qualified and dedicated faculty members.

The Department of Mathematics began its journey as a section to assist Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology departments. The Department of Applied Mathematics is involved in the teaching of Applied Mathematics at undergraduate level as well as research. Department of Mathematics provides necessary skills to the budding engineering graduates for formulation of real life problem and apply mathematical methods to solve them. We give emphasis to improve basics of mathematics among the students of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology.

In rapidly growing technical era, mathematical techniques are extensively used in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology. Taking in to consideration increasing utility of the computer in modern era, the department has equipped itself with mathematical software Mathematica for the benefit of students and staff. The computer lab is used by faculty members and students for Numerical methods and C-programming.

The Department is headed by Prof. Shubha S. Kotambkar and supported by Dr. Shrikant Warbhe. The area of research interests of Dr. Kotambkar includes General Relativity and Cosmology. Dr. Warbhe works in the area of Thermo Elasticity and Solid Mechanics. Both are actively involved in various professional activities.
